Friday Night Lights gets some Emmys love

Very happy to see one of my favourite US TV dramas get some recognition when the Emmy nominations were announced today. Friday Night Lights is up for best drama, best actor [Kyle Chandler] and best actress [Connie Britton] in a drama series, and best writing in a drama series [for the series finale, 'Always']. To celebrate, here's an affectionate video capturing all the times Tami Taylor called people 'y'all' in the show's 76 episodes. Enjoy, y'all.

Breaks my heart that one of the best dramas on TV is coming to an end. Friday Night Lights will launch its fifth and final season later this month on DirecTV in America, with NBC giving the 13 episodes their network premiere next year. Oh, well. Clear eyes, full hearts - can't lose.

Scenes like this are why I love this show. Big, open-hearted moments that on other series would be mawkish and crass just work on Friday Night Lights. Great actors and a directorial style that's at ease with itself don't hurt either, but I'd argue it comes from the writing. Sigh. I'd like to write like this. One day. In the meantime: onwards!
