Buffy the Vampire Slayer is 30 today

More accurately, Sarah Michelle Geller - the actress who played Buffy the Vampire Slayer for seven seasons on American TV - is 30 today. Like the rest of us mere mortals, she'll only ever get older, but Buffy lives on in repeats, DVD box sets and now her own ongoing comic book. Dark Horse has launched season 8 of Buffy was a comic, with scripts and guidance from the character's creator, Joss Whedon. Best of all, the new launch is a big, fat hit, selling more than 100,000 copies of the first issue in specialist comic stores across the Atlantic. That may not sound like much, but it earns Buffy a place in the Top 10 comics for March and it's the first time a comic not published by Marvel or DC has hit the Top 10 for four years. Proof that comics needn't only be men in tights and lycra hurting each other and shouting.
