BAFTA TV nominations announced

BAFTA has announced the 2007 TV award nominees for shows broadcast on British television last year. Who got the nod in the drama categories?
Best Actor: JIM BROADBENT - Longford (Channel 4); ANDY SERKIS - Longford (Channel 4); MICHAEL SHEEN - Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosa! (BBC4); JOHN SIMM - Life On Mars (BBC1)

Best Actress: ANNE-MARIE DUFF - The Virgin Queen (BBC1); SAMANTHA MORTON - Longford (Channel 4); RUTH WILSON - Jane Eyre (BBC1); VICTORIA WOOD - Housewife 49 (ITV1)

Best Single Drama: HOUSEWIFE 49 (ITV1/ITV Productions); KENNETH WILLIAMS: FANTABULOSA! (BBC4/BBC Drama); LONGFORD (C4/A Granada Production for C4 in assoc. with HBO); ROAD TO GUANTANAMO (C4/Revolution Films)

Best Drama Series: LIFE ON MARS (BBC1/Kudos Film & Television); SHAMELESS (C4/Company Pictures); SUGAR RUSH (C4/Shine Productions); THE STREET (BBC1/Granada Television Ltd)

Best Drama Serial: LOW WINTER SUN (C4/Tiger Aspect Productions); PRIME SUSPECT: THE FINAL ACT (ITV1/ITV Productions); SEE NO EVIL: THE MOORS MURDERS (ITV1/ITV Productions); THE VIRGIN QUEEN (BBC1/A BBC Drama/Power co-production)

Best Continuing Drama: CASUALTY (BBC1/BBC); CORONATION STREET (ITV1/ITV Productions); EASTENDERS (BBC1/BBC Drama Production Studios); EMMERDALE (ITV1/ITV Productions)

Best International Show: ENTOURAGE; HOUSE; LOST; MY NAME IS EARL

Conspicuous by its absence is Doctor Who, which cut a swathe through the competition last year. Instead the leading contenders this year are Life on Mars, Longford, Kenneth Williams: Fantabulosa!, Housewife 49 and The Virgin Queen. Life on Mars is the only drama nominated for the Pioneer Audience Award, where it's up against two sitcoms, two reality shows and a nature documentary series. Glad to see The Street [pictured above] get nominated, as it was one of my favourite things on TV last year - can't wait for the second series.
