Fiends 3 is bloody finished - at last!

News flash - FIENDS OF THE EASTERN FRONT: Twilight of the Dead (a.k.a. the book that wouldn't die) is officially finished! Hurrah! Well, when I say officially, I mean the first draft is finished. Now I have to print the bugger out, sub-0edit the whole thing and input all the changes. All before 5pm tomorrow. Still, let's savour the moment, shall we? It came to 73,889 words as a first draft. That'll shrink a little in the subbing, but nothing too drastic I imagine. So ends my 16th novel. A word to the wise: never agree to write a novel over the Christmas and New Year break. That way lies madness.

Now for some food.

Well done.

I think it's time for a large drink and a nap for you old son.

Well done indeed! I have to say, these recent posts of yours about the seeming staggering amount of writing you're doing to meet tight deadlines is breathtaking. I don't think I have the self-discipline to have as many jobs on the go as you do - and that's probably why you're a freelancer and I have a regular office job...! :)

Great! So, then - you gonna start on the second Fiends trilogy next?!?

Rob - a nap? Surely you jest! [I know, I know, don't call you Shirley). I've got a week until the first draft of my radio play is due and a Phantom script requiring my imminent attention.

Paul - well, I spent 15 years in various office jobs, so both environments are known to me. I like the bullpen vibe, but it's not conducive to being a novelscribe in my experience.

Jim - feck off! Although, I have got the urge to write a Fiends novel set on a German submarine, sort of DAS VAMPYR BOOT. And another where Constanta travels to wartorn London, planning to overthrow the British Government: THE VAMPYR HAS LANDED.

Well, you get the idea. This concept can run and run. WHERE FIENDS DARE, THE FIENDS OF NAVARONE, A FIEND TOO FAR, FIENDS ON THE RIVER KWAI...

Why stop at World War II? FIENDS OF THE FALKLANDS or FIENDS OF THE HO CHI MIHN TRAIL, even? I got a great idea for a Gulf War one - you could call it FANGHEAD.
